Standard No. 4 - Custodianship
The purpose of this standard is to describe the obligations of an organisation that accepts a custodian role for a dataset within the Queensland Spatial Information Infrastructure Strategy initiative.
A custodian can be defined as any organisation accepting the obligations for the collection, maintenance and provision of a dataset in accordance with a specified standard or specification. A custodian may also be the owner.
Sound custodial practices require that a custodian is accountable for a range of activities. These duties include informing clients, maintaining and providing data the data. The custodian will recognise the need for effective interfaces with other organisations in involved in the supply chain described in the QSIIS Business Environment. Such roles include capture, data management and access, distribution, value-adding and data integration. QSIC has a published policy on custodianship QSIIS Standard 4 Custodianship and has developed a self-registration process.
Self-Registration System
This system has been developed to provide custodians with the opportunity for self-registration in accordance with the principles of the QSIIS Custodianship Standard. Custodians who successfully complete self-registration will be published on the list of QSIIS Custodians.
